The Omega2+ is the latest in development boards from Onion. It comes with built-in Wi-Fi and on-board flash storage. It is an easy to use IoT device with Onion app support. It is a full computer running Linux. You can think of the Omega2+ as a tiny Linux server with Wi-Fi. (Yes, it even runs Apache!). For the BSD fans out there, the Omega2+ also runs FreeBSD!

The Omega2+ is tiny so that it can easily fit into your DIY project or commercial product. It is less than 1/4 the size of the Raspberry Pi, and less than 1/3 the size of the Arduino Uno. It is a Linux computer designed specifically for building connected hardware applications. It combines the tiny form factor and power-efficiency of the Arduino, with the power and flexibilities of the Raspberry Pi.

The Omega2+ is the upgraded version of the Omega2. It comes packed with built-in Wi-Fi, a MicroSD slot, and a powerful processor. The Omega2+ is great for those extra demanding projects. It uses the same chipset as the Omega2, but has double the built-in storage and memory, and, on top of that, there’s a MicroSD slot built in, so you’ll never have to worry about running out of space.

The MircoSD card slot can be used to expand the Omega2+’s storage capacity to ridiculous levels. If 32MB was a problem for you, you can now hit it with a tactical warhead. The slot can be found at the bottom of the Omega2+. To physically mount a MicroSD card, slide it into the slot, push it down until it clicks.

The benefit of running Linux is that the Omega2+ can be programmed with whatever language you want. It is also seamlessly integrated with the Onion Cloud allowing you to control it remotely from anywhere in the world with the Onion Web UI or RESTful APIs. You can also view the status of your Omega2 in real-time, and deploy software updates to it when it is in the field.

The Omega2 runs the Linux Embedded Development Environment (LEDE) operating system, a distribution based on OpenWRT. This distribution gives the Omega2 access to the OPKG functionality, allowing you to download packages to enhance your experience.

The Omega LED is a great tool for communicating information with a user. It notifies you when your Omega is on, when it’s off, and when it’s booting. The Omega LED uses GPIO44, and can be programmed to do a number of cool things.
